Overview

Most people sign contracts they don't understand. Leases, job offers, insurance policies, subscription terms. The language is dense, the stakes are real, and nobody has time to read 47 clauses carefully. Fineprint is an AI-powered tool that reads them for you. Upload any document and get a plain-English breakdown: risk score, red flags, missing protections, and exact language to push back with. I designed and built this end-to-end, from the first Figma frame to a live, deployed product.

The Problem

I've signed things I shouldn't have. A lease with a clause I missed. A subscription with an auto-renewal buried on page six. I'm not alone. Most people either skim legal documents or skip them entirely, because reading them properly feels impossible. The problem isn't that people are careless. It's that contracts are written to be confusing. I wanted to build something that levels the playing field.

My Approach

I used this project to push my own limits as a designer who builds. The workflow was fully AI-native: I designed in Figma, then used the Figma MCP to pipe designs directly into Cursor, no manual translation, no redline handoff. From there, Claude Code handled the heavy lifting inside the IDE, writing and iterating on components while I directed the logic and shaped the experience. GitHub kept everything versioned, Supabase handled the database and API layer, Google Cloud managed auth, and Vercel got it live. Design decisions and build decisions happened in the same session, which made the whole thing faster and more coherent.

The Solution and Impact

Fineprint is live and actively in people's hands. Upload any contract or bill and within seconds you get a risk score from 0 to 100, a plain-English summary, flagged clauses sorted by severity, a list of standard protections you're missing, and negotiation language you can actually use. The analysis tabs (Summary, Red Flags, Cautions, Missing Protections, Negotiate) are designed to meet users wherever they are, whether they want the full picture or just want to know what to push back on. It's the tool I wish I'd had every time I signed something without fully understanding it.
